Redwood Shores Regatta

Last weekend was the Redwood Shores Regatta, which is the adult Dragon Boat event in the Spring. The kids by having won the High School Championships were awarded a spot in this race. This event consist of Adult teams as well as all the college teams. It is held in Redwood Shores which is a nice man made lagoon area down south of us. The weather was much nicer than it was for the High School races. The kids had three teams competing, the all male crew, the all female crew and the mixed team. It was very amusing to listen to the other competitors when the kids were racing. In their first heat of the mixed team, the King and I were in a crowd who commented on how amazingly in sync their team was and that they were only in High School. It was pretty funny to see the amazement on their faces. The kids are just like a machine coming down the water, everyone in perfect unison. Well to make a long story short, last year they finished 5th in the top division. This year the mixed team came in 2nd place of the top division, the girls came in 1st place and the boys came in 3rd place. The boys finished 3rd by less that a second between them and 1st. They are getting pretty good at this. Their next race will be in July down in Long Beach, which should be fun.
